The selection of two Czech nodes of Euro-BioImaging is a clear proof of quality andinternational competitiveness of research infrastructure and available expertise in imaging methods in the Czech Republic. International experts from Harvard and Stanford universities and other prestigious facilities outside of Europe participated in the selection and evaluation of the nodes.
From 2016 the imaging facilities of these institutes will offer open access to state-of-the-art imaging technologies (e.g. super-resolution microscopy, scanning electron microscopy combined with focused ion beam, magnetic resonance) to scientists from all over Europe. Within the pilot phase, the acceptance of external users at each facility will be tested as well as the cooperation among the Euro-BioImaging central office and individual nodes.
As soon as the legal status of Euro-BioImaging is approved as ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium), both nodes will formally become Euro-BioImaging nodes and will start their routine operation within the infrastructure. The approval of ERIC is expected in 2017.
By getting involved in Euro-BioImaging, the Czech imaging facilities expect to gain new international users with interesting scientific projects and new possibilities for cooperation in methodological research with top international facilities.
The participation in Euro-BioImaging is closely connected with the national research infrastructure Czech-BioImaging due to its backbone being made of these two nodes. Czech-BioImaging is included in the Roadmap of Large Infrastructures for Research, Experimental Development and Innovation of the Czech Republic for the years 2016-2022. The aim of Czech-BioImaging is to interlink the unique instrumentation for biomedical imaging available in the Czech Republic and to ensure coordinated open access and education in this field, for both Czech and international scientific community.
