CEITEC introduces itself to young science talents all around Europe

Berlin, Paris, Rome, Bucharest, Warsaw and last but not least Brno! These are the towns in which the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) will introduce itself to young researchers from the whole of Europe as the sole Czech representative. The aim is to find successful and talented scientists and offer them an opportunity to continue their careers in CEITEC. The purpose of the “Marie Curie Actions Road Show 2012” is to introduce scientific centres in the seven participating countries. The outcome will be mediation of dozens of international research stays for young scientists with the financial support of the EU. The three-month tour started in Berlin on the 16th February; foreign research organizations will be introduced in Brno itself on the 27th of March.

The main aim of these informational events held under the sponsorship of the European Commission is to acquaint postgraduate students and scientists just beginning with job opportunities made possible by European Marie Curie grants. All institutions invited will be introduced on the premises of the seven participating centres from March to May, and representatives of the European Commission will give information about grant possibilities. Scientists that have succeeded in securing the Marie Curie grant in the past years will share their experiences. “The attendance in Berlin was high – a total of almost 100 scientists of more than 15 nationalities who now work in Germany took part. They were very interested in CEITEC and some of them are already considering attempting to secure a Marie Curie and then work in Brno,” claimed Roman Badík, a representative of CEITEC.

The Central European Institute of Technology is the only representative from the Czech Republic taking part in the Road Show. “It was CEITEC which we invited from the Czech Republic because we see high potential for scientists there. Thanks to its multi-field focus and the interconnection of various research fields, scientist of many professions can find employment there,” said Susan Kentner, a representative of Helmholz, the organizing association that unites 18 German research centres in total. The Brno centre of excellence’s plan is to focus on the real peak within the field to attract experienced scientists to Brno. In particular, those who have already managed to win recognition in international competitions.

Over 450 young researchers in total from five participating organizations (Germany, France, Italy, Denmark, Turkey) took part in last year’s edition of the Marie Curie Road Show. In addition to the Czech Republic, represented by CEITEC, there will also be research organizations from Poland and Romania taking part this year. The Marie Curie Information Day, organized by the Central European Institute of Technology, will take place in Brno on the 27th of March.

Marie Curie Actions aim at quantitatively and qualitatively strengthening the human potential in research and technology in Europe. They offer a range of possibilities for researchers in all fields of science in various stages of their career as well as for their host organizations. The total budget for the Marie Curie Actions for the period of 2007 – 2013 exceeds 4.7 billion EUR. According to European Commission estimates, as many as 70,000 researchers could be supported in various forms from these funds.
