Seminar talk of prof. Sebastian Díaz de la Torre

Seminar talk of prof. Sebastian Díaz de la Torre

Topic 1: Concise History of Mexico and IPN
Topic 2: Processing and Sintering of Advanced Composite Powder Materials

When: 1. 4. 2014 from 14,00 to 16,00
Where: audience hall P6, Fakulta strojního inženýrství (Faculty of Material Engineering), VUT (BUT)

In this presentation the speaker introduces some and concise historical facts about his homeland. How Mexico was constituted before and after the Spanish invasion and how this country is facing new challenges today as to trigger both economic and academic development. Natural resources and touristic places in Mexico that must be visited are briefly suggested. The National Polytechnique Institute IPN is considered one of the major products derived from the Mexican revolution in 1910 that constitutes one of the most important academic institutions, which have put forward the name of Mexico worldwide due to original inventions. The speaker also introduces part of his professional experience on the development of advanced materials using two main techniques; namely, the mechanical alloying MA and the spark plasma sintering SPS. Among the advanced materials that are presented it is included: Alumina-(Y) Zirconia powder chemically processed and subsequently sintered by SPS for ball-bearing applications, the Sn-Te system prepared by the Repeated Cold Pressing technique to produce intermetallic compounds, the synthesis of hydroxyapatite HA powder through chemical routes and its combination with carbon nanotubes CNT for its ultimate consolidation using SPS and SPE techniques, and also aluminum and copper powder having CNT´s  dispersion through spark plasma extrusion SPE technique. The speaker invites all interested people to spend one hour or so listening easy going English while having fun through his talk, aiming to settle up all sort of possible collaboration, both academic and touristic relationship between Czech and Mexico.
