South Moravian Innovation Centre has opened registration to the international biotechnology conference Gate2BrnoBiotech

South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC) has launched international biotechnology conference Gate2BrnoBiotech website www.gate2brnobiotech.com and opened registration to this unique meeting of R&D workers from both academia and industry. The conference will be held on 21st October 2010 in Brno as a part of the accompanying programme of the International Fair for Medical Technology, Rehabilitation and Healthcare Medical Fair Brno Central Europe 2010. The conference follows the success of the three previous conferences held in 2006, 2007 and 2008 that were attended by around 150 participants each year.

The fourth series of Gate2BrnoBiotech conference will traditionally focus on the latest trends in biomedical and biotechnology research and present this dynamically developing sector to both experts and the general public. At the same time, the event will promote the Czech Republic as a place with perfect conditions for its further development.

The aim of the conference, which is held within the framework of the Enterprise Europe Network, is to create a platform for close interaction between academia and industry and strengthen the application of the latest research results in the industrial sector.

„Life Sciences are one of the most potential sectors in the South Moravian region and globally one of the most progressive fields of research, development and innovation. Increasing importance of these sectors is reflected in the research focus of the newly developing research and development centres, “says Michal Kostka, deputy director of South Moravian Innovation Centre, who is also active in development of biotechnology entrepreneurship in South Moravia.

The centres mentioned by Kostka include Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC),  International Clinical Research Centre (FNUSA-ICRC), Biotechnology and biomedicine centre (BIOCEV), Regional Centre for Applied Molecular Oncology (RECAMO) and Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine (BIOMEDREG). These centres will have the opportunity to present the key projects that are being conducted by their research teams. The main conference partners will introduce projects such as Novel Stem Cell Technologies for Myocardial Regeneration and Bioanalytical Applications of Nanotechnology in order to outline possible cooperation and industrial partnerships.

Conference attendees will have the opportunity to meet with other registered participants thanks to Gate2BrnoBiotech messaging system at the conference website www.gate2brnobiotech.combiotec 2010

CEITEC

CEITEC is a project aiming to set up a Central European centre of scientific excellence in Brno. Together with local universities and research institutes (Masaryk University, Brno University of Technology, Mendel University in Brno, Institute of Physics of Materials, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic and the Veterinary Research Institute.)  a laboratory will be outfitted with first-class equipment and facilities which will foster the perfect conditions for basic and applied research in the field of life sciences and advanced materials and technology.

The core of the project consists of seven research programmes: advanced nanotechnology and microtechnology, advanced materials, structural biology, genomics and proteomics of plant systems, molecular medicine, neuroscience and molecular veterinary medicine, bringing together research groups specialising in specific, progressive scientific fields and disciplines.

The CEITEC project came about firstly to provide appropriate mechanisms to aid basic and applied research based in the South Moravia region in reaching the highest levels.

FNUSA – ICRC

International Clinical Research Center will be the first international medical research centre to focus mainly on cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, acute medicine, and neurovascular diseases. The project involves several strategic partners, including Mayo Clinic (one of the world’s best respected medical research centres), Minnesota Partnership for Biotechnology and Medical Genomics (the biggest biotech cluster in the US) and broad range of European centres.

The International Clinical Research Center involves 12 research programmes focused on research and development of new methods, technologies, pharmaceuticals and techniques for prevention and treatment of the major cardiovascular and neurological diseases. The excellent medical research is based on 6 multidisciplinary platforms in biomedical engineering, pharmacology, biotechnology and nanotechnology, molecular imaging and animal research.

Thanks to scientific collaboration between researchers of St. Anne’s Hospital in Brno and their counterparts from the Mayo Clinic on the FNUSA-ICRC platform, both the Czech Republic and European Union will benefit from the unique know-how. FNUSA-ICRC will become an important European centre of science and education.
