The European Union invests 10 million Euro from its Horizon 2020 research programme in enabling European researchers to use unique, state-of-the-art infrastructures for structural biology from 23 research institutes in Europe.
› more11 May 2015, Hinxton, UK – ELIXIR has been awarded €19 million from the EU to accelerate the implementation of Europe’s life-science data infrastructure over the next four years. From September 2015, ‘ELIXIR-EXCELERATE’ will facilitate the integration of Europe’s bioinformatics resources, supporting all sectors of life-science R&D. It will deliver excellence to ELIXIR’s users by fast-tracking the development and deployment of essential data services.

Scientists from the CEITEC Masaryk University (MU) research centre have begun to make use of two unique scanners for visualising the functioning and structure of the brain and spinal cord with the help of nuclear magnetic resonance. Thanks to these instruments worth some 100 million Czech crowns scientists will be able to investigate a range of serious diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s as well as epilepsy and schizophrenia and they will also be used to study the functioning of the healthy brain in research into the risky behaviour of drivers or the perception of music.
