South Moravia supports innovation
In the Czech Republic, South Moravia was the first region which started to focus on the support of innovation and that was in 2001. A year later it was also the first region to create and implement a regional innovation strategy (RIS). From this time, the following strategies were implemented RIS II (implementation 2005 – 2008) and RIS III (implementation 2009 – 2013). Activities implemented in both phases of the innovation strategy propelled South Moravia into a leading position in the field of innovation support and innovation business in the Czech Republic.

Publication has been published by the Regional Development Agency South Moravia for 13 years already and which, over the time, has become a useful means of assistance to foreign investors, an important vehicle of promotion of the South Moravian Region and an inspiration to other regions in the Czech Republic and abroad. Brno is the best place for innovation
CEITEC is situated in South Moravia, where historically an optimal structure of universities exists, which is above the norm in Europe. Other than technical and humanities fields, Brno can also boast Veterinary research and a pharmaceutical faculty, which creates the ideal conditions for innovations in these fields. The assumption that Brno can become the best place for innovation is founded on the fact the more than 80,000 students study at 12 universities.
Support for CEITEC at region level
South Moravia has invested more than 500 million crowns into the support of research, development and innovation in the last 5 years and plans to intensive increase investment in this area. The leadership of South Moravia aims to strengthen international cooperation in research and development organisations through Brokerage events, which should significantly assist the cooperation of research teams and businesses from the region with international scientific research projects.
Regional Innovation Strategy (RIS) introduces effective instruments, which will enable the building of innovation infrastructures necessary for the creation of innovation. RIS of South Moravia is key to solving issues and requirements which have been identified on the basis of surveys into the business and scientific research areas in the region. Innovation represents in the current global economic climate a key advantage in competitiveness in the global economy.
The South Moravian centre of international mobility (JCMM) is a specialised agency supporting gifted students and staff in science to work in South Moravia. Its goal is to effectively support the influx of students and scientists to the region and create conditions for the development of gifted students studying in the South Moravian region.
Support for innovation potential in South Moravia
The South Moravian Innovation Centre is one of the main contributors of the project supporting innovation businesses in the Czech Republic. This is a project financed by funds from the state budget and the European structural funds. The activities of the South Moravian Innovation Centre are laid out in the RIS documentation, support for innovation and innovation businesses is also a strategy of the city of Brno.
Innovation Park includes the buildings and area of technology park as well as JIC services. The advantages of Innovation Park JIC are comprehensive support for start-up businesses & entrepreneurs, professional services, exclusive facilities and the creative environment.
Innovation Park JIC consists of three areas with a total space of over 7 000 square metres:
- Technology incubator INTEC
- Biotechnology incubator INBIT
- Advanced technologies and materials incubatot INMEC
The aim of innovation vouchers is to support cooperation of companies and universities with reseach and development. It is a one-off grant awarded to business in the form of a cheque. This is intended for the purchase of services / expertese from suppliers, in this case universities. The know-how gained should allow firms to move forward with innovating their own products, proceses and services.
Brno opens its research capacities to companies from all over the world. JIC | Innovation Vouchers available till April 29th.
Following four successful calls since 2009, JIC launches its sixth call for JIC | Innovation Vouchers on March 12th. Applications may be submitted by innovative companies from all over the world. Subsidies worth up to 4.000 EUR will cover 75 % of the overall costs of the pursued projects. The city of Brno will distribute more than 160.000 EUR in total.
Companies are encouraged to innovate their products, services or processes working in cooperation with one of the 13 knowledge providers. Applications can be submitted at www.inovacnivouchery.cz until April 29th. Innovation Vouchers are selected randomly in a public draw on May 27th. The research projects should be finished no later than June 2015.
