Mg alloys are receiving increasing attention due to their light-weight, castability, mechanical properties and biodegradability. However, corrosion is a critical issue limiting their applications. This presentation covers the corrosion characteristics of Mg alloys and their corrosion prevention techniques. It includes the crystalline, alloying and microstructure effects on corrosion behavior and a variety of surface treatments and coatings used in mitigating the corrosion damage.
